The 15th Annual “Kids Project Day”, hosted by Lake
Chelan Building Supply got off to a slow start on December 2, because of five inches of early morning snow in Manson. Snow plows were out and by the time Santa arrived in the Manson fire truck, with lights flashing, driven by Chief Arnold Baker at 9:30, it was a different story. Kids, moms and dads were busy building birdhouses.
This event was developed and put into action in 2007
by Brett LaMar and Mark Areneson to kick off the Christmas season and teach children a little about building. On average the event attracts 80 to 100 kids and this year, 90 bird houses were built.
Local volunteers were on hand assisting the youngsters position the pre-cut pine boards, pound nails and give encouraging words when the nail bent or went flying!
When birdhouses were completed, the youngsters brought them to Santa for inspection. Kids also had an opportunity to tell Santa what they wanted for Christmas. Santa gave each child a candy cane and photos were taken.
We thank Lake Chelan Building Supply for championing this wonderful event and bring some Christmas cheer to our community. Be sure to shop local in support of great businesses like the Lake Chelan Building Supply.
